A Murfreesboro man is being held in Memphis after he was arrested this past week in a 20-year-old cold case.
According to WGNS Radio, Phanksay Phanivong, 36, was taken into custody by police at his Murfreesboro home on Merlin Drive.
Phanivong was wanted in Memphis for allegedly killing Angela Perkins at a busy Shelby County intersection on Valentine’s Day in 1994. Phanivong was only 16 years old at the time.
Perkins was shot while driving down Mendenhall Road as suspects tried to steal her Mazda RX-7, WGNS reports.
Police said the arrest came after a witness came forward with information 20 years after her murder. The person stayed quiet because a suspect reportedly threatened them.
A second man was previously arrested in Mississippi in connection to the case.
Family members say Perkins was a happy, friendly person who was always laughing. She had just started college at Ole Miss when she was killed.
