A dozen gold bars were recovered from an Indian man’s stomach during surgery after he complained of stomach pain.
BBC News reports the 63-year-old man told his doctor that we swallowed a bottle cap during a fight with his wife out of anger.
However, when doctors were performing surgery, they found the 12 gold bars, weighing nearly a pound, instead of a bottle cap.
The gold has been valued at $23,000.
The surgery took three hours and was very tedious, a doctor said.
According to the report, customs authorities questioned the man and confiscated the gold.
India, as the leader in gold consumption, has seen a record rise in smuggling following an increase of import costs.
