Virgin Hotels announced plans Thursday to open a new hotel in Nashville.

News 2 has learned the new hotel, which is expected to open in 2016, will be located in the same location where construction crews tore down a historic building from the mid-1800s on Music Row earlier this week.

“Virgin Hotels will be our first venture in Nashville, and we'll look at other opportunities for our US and international customers to enjoy the southern hospitality that Nashville is known for,” British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson said in a release.

Property developer David Chase added, “For the brand to recognize that Nashville is an up and coming premiere city in the US and you know for them to want to bring all of their customers here you know it's a big win for Nashville.”

The high-end hotel will include 240 guest rooms and a spa, retail, meeting spaces and a private recording studio for travelers and locals.

“This will definitely be something that Nashville doesn't have, has never had and we've always wanted,” Chase told Nashville's News 2 in an exclusive interview. “It definitely will be a destination spot not just for tourist and convention goers and leisure travelers and business travelers but also the local community.”

Virgin Hotels will also open a new location in Chicago's Loop District later this fall. Other U.S. locations are expected.
