A man was arrested in Murfreesboro last Friday after police say he killed a cat in front of several children.

Eric Lee-Knox, 21, is facing one count of aggravated animal cruelty following the incident at a home in the 300 of January Street, not far from the Stones River Mall.

Police arrived to the home around 4:30 p.m. Friday where a witness reported Lee-Knox swung her cat named Onyx in the air by a belt.

The belt was wrapped around the cat's neck causing it to die.

Lee-Knox reportedly told police he swung the cat because he was unsure if it had rabies.  He also told police there was a child inside the residence who was allergic to cats and the cat had wandered inside.

While the child Lee-Knox spoke of was not present, officers stated several children were there when they arrived.

According to the affidavit, the children were all crying because they observed what Lee-Knox had done.

Murfreesboro's Pet Adoption and Animal Welfare Services were informed of the incident.

The belt was taken into custody.

Lee-Knox was booked into Rutherford County jail on $2,750 bond.
