A woman was arrested after throwing a shoe at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Las Vegas Thursday.
The incident happened as Clinton was about to give a speech at a meeting for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries at the Mandalay Bay resort.
ABC News reported that the woman walked down the aisle and tossed a black and orange shoe at Clinton before throwing her hands in the air and returning to the back of the room.
Authorities said she also threw paper in the air, including a document that appeared to be a copy of a Department of Defense document labeled confidential and dated August 1967. It referred to an operation “Cynthia” in Bolivia.
Clinton was able to dodge the shoe and made jokes afterwards.
“Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque de Soleil?” Clinton said. “My goodness, I didn't know that solid waste management was so controversial. Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did.”
The audience laughed and applauded the former Secretary of State as she resumed her speech.
The woman was arrested and taken into federal custody. She will face criminal charges.
