The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a Murfreesboro police officer for misconduct Wednesday.
Authorities began investigating Officer Bryant Smith in mid-October at the request of the police department.
During their investigation, special agents determined Smith compromised ongoing vice and narcotic operations in 2012 by providing the name of at least one potential confidential informant to a Rutherford County citizen who had a criminal history for distributing illegal narcotics.
Smith, a 10-year veteran of the police department, admitted to his involvement in the incident.
He has since been decommissioned and placed on administrative leave with pay.
Smith is charged with official misconduct and misuse of official information.
He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
