Longtime Tennessean columnist Gail Kerr passed away Tuesday at the age of 52.
Kerr was battling cancer for a third time, though was continuing to work.
She was scheduled to receive a blood transfusion Tuesday.
Her death is believed to have been caused by a blood clot, the newspaper reported.
Kerr began working for The Tennessean in 1978 while she was still in high school. After graduating college in 1983, she returned to the newspaper where she has worked ever since.
Her final column appeared in The Tennessean last week.
She is survived by her husband, mother, sister, nephews and niece.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
