Both the Tennessee men and women are headed to the Sweet 16. The Lady Vols advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a 67-51 win over St. Johns's Monday in Knoxville.
It was another slow start for top seeded Tennessee. The Lady Vols led only 39-35 at the half after St. John's hit a three-point field goal at the buzzer.
Both teams struggled to score to start the second half and the Red Storm was within two at 43-41 when the Lady Vols erupted for a 24-10 run to finish the game.
Cierra Burdick led Tennessee with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Meighan Simmons fought past foul trouble to score 17 and Isabelle Harrison had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
It was the 15th win in 16 games for the (29-5) Lady Vols. They'll meet Texas or Maryland in round 3.
