MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) Planned construction will shift traffic on Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro for several days this weekend.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the shift will lead to alternating lane closures over the railroad tracks near the intersection of Broad Street.
The traffic shift began Thursday at 8 p.m. and will continue through Tuesday, March 18 at 6 a.m., excluding both Saturday and Sunday.
Crews will remove the median wall and begin construction on a $17.6 million project on the other side of Memorial Boulevard.
The multi-million dollar project will eventually lead to an entirely new intersection.
Crews plan to create a single-point urban interchange, which allows high volumes of traffic to move through limited space efficiently.
The project also includes the construction of a bridge on Memorial Boulevard that will go over Broad Street.
It is set to be completed in early summer of 2016.
