An 80-year-old Delaware man passed away Sunday and, to his family's surprise, wrote his own obituary.

The family of Walter Bruhl Jr. discovered the secret obituary after his passing on March 9.  His grandson Sam then posted it on Reddit, USA Today reported.

“Typical of my PopPop: he cut out the middleman and wrote his own… obituary. He's the only man I've ever known to be able to add his own humor like this,” Sam wrote on his Facebook page.

The funny obituary has since gone viral, ABC affiliate WPVI reported, picking up attention worldwide.

Bruhl begins his self-penned obit with, “Walter George Bruhl Jr. of Newark and Dewey Beach is a dead person; he is no more; he is bereft of life; he is deceased; he has rung down the curtain and gone to join the choir invisible; he has expired and gone to meet his maker.”

He continues to outline the details of his life, from his education to his career and hospital visits.

Bruhl even drafted his visitation and funeral specifications.

“There will be no viewing since his wife refuses to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of Jack Daniels in his hand so he would appear natural to visitors,” he wrote.

Bruhl ends his obituary by asking to substitute flowers for random acts of kindness, which has since inspired people all over the world to perform those acts in his honor.
Sam's Facebook post has garnered over 90 likes, and his Reddit post has 1,600 comments and nearly 850,000 views.

“He was the best, and I know he would have been a great Redditor too. His Facebook statuses were legendary, and maybe I can get around to posting some at some point. But without a doubt, he was my favorite writer and an amazing man that I'm glad I got to share a part of my life with,” Sam wrote responding to comments on Reddit.
