No. 8 Vanderbilt completed its sweep of Winthrop Sunday with a 4-1 victory at Hawkins Field.
This is the Commodores fourth straight series sweep.
Vanderbilt (15-2) was scoreless heading into the fifth inning until Rhett Wiseman and Vince Conde each singled and then scored, making it 2-0.
Tyler Ferguson continued to sail through until the seventh inning. John Menken doubled for Winthrop and advanced to third after a throwing error from Ferguson. A wild pitch allowed Menken to score the only run of the game for the eagles.
Vanderbilt scored two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game away. John Norwood scored on a hit by Bryan Reynolds followed by Dansby Swanson, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Zander Wiel.
Reynolds and Wiseman led the Commodores with two hits each. The 4-1 victory gives Ferguson his third win of the season.
Vanderbilt faces Eastern Illinois at Hawkins Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
