A proposal to allow to-go alcoholic drinks to be sold in the Lower Broadway area suffered a major blow by the Metro Council Tuesday night.
The council voted 30-3 on a resolution asking the state not to pass legislation enabling Metro Nashville to allow the to-go cups downtown.
Council Member Emily Evans (Dist. 23) submitted the non-binding resolution Tuesday night. The results will be sent to the Metro council members' counterparts at the Tennessee State Capitol.
The proposed state legislation was recommended by the Convention and Visitors Corporation as a way to “improve our product while protecting our authenticity.
This was one of several ideas that the industry has discussed over the years.
