Titans decline to tag CB Alterraun Verner as franchise player

The 3 p.m. deadline came and went as the Titans opted not to place a franchise tag on Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner.

Verner was drafted in the 4th round by the Titans in 2010. In his rookie season, Verner had 101 combined tackles and three interceptions; he has 288 career combined tackles and 11 interceptions.

Verner led the Titans with five interceptions in the 2013 season along with 57 combined tackles. By not using the franchise tag on Verner, the Titans opted out of signing him to a one-year $11.8 million dollar contract.

The Titans have until March 11 to sign Verner to a new contract before he becomes a free agent.
