A New York woman trying to hail a cab during rush hour earlier this week gave birth to her third child, a daughter, on a busy Manhattan sidewalk.
Polly McCourt went into labor at her apartment around 4 p.m. Monday. The 39-year-old old woman told ABC News that her doorman attempted to help hail her a cab.
While in labor on the sidewalk, the doorman and strangers came to her assistance offering scarves and a jacket to help McCourt stay warm in the cold winter temperatures.
Paramedics arrived to the scene just in time where McCourt delivered her daughter, Ila Isabelle.
“She's a real New Yorker,” McCourt said. “She's born on the streets of New York.”
The newborn's middle name is in honor of the woman who gave the coat off her back so McCourt would stay warm.
McCourt's husband was stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel when his wife unexpectedly gave birth.
Both mother and baby are doing well.
