A serious crash occurred on Monday morning in Rutherford County.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, four vehicles, including a sanitation truck from Planet Green Sanitation, collided on Highway 96 near Coleman Hill Road around 6:40 a.m.
Authorities said it appears the sanitation truck was traveling east on the roadway and was stopped to service a residence when it was rear-ended by a driver who was blinded by the sun.
The van that struck the sanitation truck was then struck by a third vehicle. A fourth vehicle, traveling westbound, sustained damage from debris.
One of the sanitation workers was injured and transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
The driver of the van that struck the sanitation truck was injured and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The third driver involved in the crash was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for their injuries.
The driver of the fourth vehicle, which was traveling westbound, was not injured.
