Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber scored as Canada opened up Olympic play with a 3-1 win over Norway in Sochi.
The game was scoreless after the first period and it was a slow start for the defending gold medal winners.
Weber started the scoring in the second, Jamie Been added another goal in the period and Drew Doughty scored in the third.
Carey Price made 19 saves for Canada in his Olympic debut.
Meanwhile Team USA crushed Slovakia 7-1 in its opener.
The Americans scored six goals in the second period on their way to a surprising rout of a team that beat them four years ago in Vancouver.
Team USA meets Russia Saturday morning.
