Country music artist Craig Morgan, along with Kidde Fire Safety, will donate 5,000 smoke alarms to fire departments as a part of the manufacturer's national awareness campaign.
Almost 3,000 people die house fires in the U.S. every year, most occurring in homes with outdated alarms or no alarm at all.
The campaign encourages people to “be a safety hero” and to follow five steps to fire safety. The first step is replacing outdated smoke alarms.
Recipients of the Nationwide Alarm Donation Program were announced at Dickson Fire Department, Morgan's hometown, on Tuesday morning. The donations will be made at select shows along the artist's 2014 tour.
In addition to award recipients, Kidde Fire Safety will donate 100 of its smoke alarms to Dickson Fire Department and will be installed in local at-risk homes.
