Predators General Manager David Poile is back in Nashville, but will not travel to the Olympics.
Poile was struck in the face by a puck last Thursday in Minnesota and underwent two surgeries.
Late Monday afternoon, Poile released a statement that read in part, “I first want to thank everyone who has reached out to me since suffering this injury. The outpouring of support and comfort has been overwhelming.”
Poile is also the General Manager for USA Hockey, but now will not be going to Sochi for the 12-game Olympic hockey tournament which begins for the United States Thursday morning.
Ray Shero takes over as acting general manager. Shero says the GM's work is largely done with the team already selected.
U.S. coach Dan Bylsma says he's bitterly disappointed for Poile, who has worked with USA Hockey for years.
This was Poile's time to run the show for Team USA after years as an assistant.
