The departure of head football coach James Franklin has hurt the Vanderbilt Commodores recruiting class dearly.

Wednesday the Commodores lost two coveted local recruits in MBA lineman Jashon Robertson and Ensworth lineman Michael Sawyers.

Robertson announced via Twitter he is now committed to the University of Tennessee and head coach Butch Jones.

The six foot, two inch, 300 pound Sawyers also made his announcement on Twitter.  He said he has “decommitted” from Vanderbilt, but has not chosen another school.

Franklin left for Penn State last Saturday and has already had three players he recruited for Vanderbilt follow him to Penn State.

Reports are he has offered scholarships to at least three more Vanderbilt recruits.

Athletic Director David Williams has begun interviewing head coaching candidates, but indicated he will not rush a decision and risk a bad hire just to save a recruiting class.
