A Hendersonville man charged in the shooting death of his wife last February will go on trial later this year.
Joseph Cundiff appeared before a Sumner County judge Thursday morning who set a September 15 trial date.
Cundiff told police he was cleaning his gun on February 13, 2013 when it accidentally fired, striking his wife, Ashlee.
The 26-year-old mother of two died from her injuries six days after the shooting.
Police initially charged Joseph Cundiff with aggravated assault.
The charge was later upgraded to first degree murder after detectives learned Cundiff moved his wife after the shooting and they found his gun in another area of the home.
Joseph Cundiff is being held without bond.
