A Putnam County official was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in Cookeville.

County property assessor, Travis Roberts, was initially pulled over for a seatbelt violation and speeding on Highway 136/Jefferson Avenue around 1:20 p.m.

The arresting trooper reported upon approaching Roberts' vehicle he detected the smell of marijuana.

Roberts, 44, voluntarily gave the trooper a bag of a “green leafy material,” and a small pipe.  He also said he had been smoking weed.

Roberts faces drug related charges. He was booked into the Putnam County jail.
