Metro police are questioning a man accused of shooting another man in self-defense.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. Sunday in front of Jammers Mkt, a convenience store at the intersection of Jones and Chickasaw avenues in east Nashville.

Authorities told News 2 a driver was dropping off a passenger after washing the driver's car.  A fight broke out after the passenger demanded more money from the driver for his services.

Police said the passenger started choking the driver and tried to reach for the driver's gun.

After a brief struggle, the gun went off, striking the passenger in the shoulder.

The passenger was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver, who called 911, admitted to shooting the passenger, but only out of self-defense.

The driver reportedly has a permit to carry the weapon.

The shooting remains under investigation.
