On Thursday night, city commissioners in Fairview grilled Mayor Beverly Totty on whether proper procedures were followed when she and her husband built a modest subdivision in their town.
The subdivision in question, Williamsport Estate, is made up of four homes that are connected by a gravel drive off Old Franklin Road.
Earlier this week, Fairview Commissioner Alan Bissell said the small subdivision was not built in compliance with city regulations and there were not any plans submitted to the planning commissioner prior to the project being built.
Former codes director Donn Lovvorn has since admitted he made a mistake by not submitting the plans to the building commission.
During Thursday night's meeting, the Board of Commissioners decided to open an independent investigation into the mayor's involvement with her husband's company and the development of the subdivision.
The Board of Commissioners will schedule another meeting once the investigation is complete, and a decision will be made about whether the mayor will keep or lose her job.
