Nearly 100 members of the National Guard based in Murfreesboro are deploying to Afghanistan next month.
The Daily News journal reported the 269th Military Police Company will undergo a month of training in Fort Bliss, Texas before their deployment.
They left Murfeesboro's National Guard Armory Monday for Texas.
The company will be overseas for “no more than 400 days” to support Operation Enduring Freedom, according to Niki Gentry, the public affairs specialist for the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Of the 100 soldiers, 15 of which are women, about half are single and half are married. More than 50% have also never been deployed.
Since September 11, 2001, more than 28,000 guardsmen have been assigned overseas.
