A family of four is displaced after fire damaged their Madison home early Monday morning.

The fire broke out before 8 a.m. at the home located at 2044 Williams Valley Drive.

A woman and her 18-month-old child were inside at the time.  They heard the fire alarm and got out safely.

Firefighters on the scene told News 2 the fire began in the laundry room and spread to the kitchen.

They fire was quickly extinguished but the home suffered smoke damage throughout.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
