A Franklin man died Wednesday after falling from the roof of his home while removing Christmas decorations.
Bruce Johnson, 65, fell from the second story of his home in the Westhaven subdivision onto the sidewalk.
Neighbors attempted to resuscitate him, but he did not regain consciousness.
Emergency responders transported Johnson to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter, but he did not survive his injuries.
A display of pictures, letters and mementos inside the Franklin family's home shares insight into the type of man Johnson was: a loving grandfather, enjoying life and giving back.
“He would use his credit and his resources to get people into housing that they normally couldn't get into,” said Andy Johnson, his son.
Andy said his father was known in the Westhaven community for his generous acts of kindness.
“Stepping back and seeing how he affected the community, it is pretty amazing. I am like wow, that was my dad. I am proud that he had the life that he did,” said Andy.
He added that even in this difficult time, his family is at peace and cherishing his life.
“He had just a kind, loving heart. He would forgive quickly; he would apologize quickly and sincerely. He wasn't a perfect man, but he had a special touch with everyone he came in contact with,” Andy stated.
Johnson leaves behind a wife, four children and 10 grandchildren.
