A Franklin woman is facing robbery and kidnapping charges after police say she held a knife to a child's throat during a robbery.

The incident took place Sunday morning at the BP gas station just off Interstate 65 in Columbia.

Police say the suspect, 52-year-old Elizabeth Ann Tucker, approached a car while a man was pumping gas.

She reportedly reached into the car, held a hunting knife to a three-year-old child's throat and demanded money from the father.

The man, who was en route from Wisconsin to Florida, gave Tucker $31 and she fled the scene.

The man immediately called 911.

“She pulled a knife on my kid,” the man said during the 911 call. “It was a big knife, like a hunting knife, a big hunting knife.”

The man was able to write down the suspect's license plate number before she was out of sight.

Columbia Police Detective Mike Barnick told News 2 Tucker was located in Nashville and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.

Once she's released, she faces charges of robbery and aggravated robbery.

Authorities stated she could also be charged with especially aggravated kidnapping since the victim was just three years old.

“Any time you have somebody in a possible mental state, somebody willing to go to that length, to put a knife to a three-year-old, it can be dangerous for anybody around,” Detective Barnick explained.

The child was not injured.
