A Cookeville woman indicted on six counts of child rape last February pled guilty to lesser charges in criminal court Wednesday.
The Herald Citizen reported Tonya Phy, 44, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated sexual battery and was taken into custody to begin serving a 10 year prison sentence at 100%.
The case against Phy began mid-2012 when allegations came to light that she had a sexual relationship with a family friend's son who was 12 years old at the time.
The relationship reportedly began when Phy was babysitting the boy in February 2012.
In July of that year, teachers reported suspicious behavior between the woman and child to authorities who then began an investigation.
Upon her release from prison, Phy will be added to the sexual offender list for life.
