Buddha, an obese cat who sought the help of an underwater treadmill to lose weight, has died.
Buddha passed away Friday morning after going into respiratory distress.
Buddha was recently diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. He was taken to the hospital Friday morning because he was having trouble breathing.
At the hospital he was put on oxygen. However, as soon as he was taken off oxygen he went into respiratory distress and veterinarians could not revive.
Friday was the third time Buddha had been hospitalized in recent weeks.
A memorial service will be held December 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Monell's.
At one time, Buddha weighed more than 30 pounds.
