A Davidson County grand jury will hear the case against a man charged with raping a student at Tennessee State University in her on-campus dorm room last month.
According to an affidavit, Reginald Banks, 20, was in a relationship with the victim when he visited her on November 8.
During the visit, the victim caught Banks stealing money from her purse. She grabbed her purse and a struggle ensued.
After the student told Banks she no longer wanted anything to do with him, he got upset, threw her into a corner of the room and proceeded to rape her.
Later, as the victim struggled to get away from Banks, he hit her several times in the face and even bit her on the back.
According to the affidavit, Banks only stopped the assault when the victim began bleeding profusely.
He fled the dormitory but was arrested later that day on charges of aggravated rape, among others.
According to Metro police, at the time of his arrest, Banks was on probation for stealing a car in 2011.
Banks is not a student at TSU. He is being held in the Metro jail on $256,000 bond.
