MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) – A judge has handed down a life sentence for a man convicted of killing an eastern Kentucky sheriff more than four decades ago.

WLEX-TV reports Oran Brumley received the sentence on Monday in Clay County Circuit Court.

Brumley, who used to live in the area, was convicted by a jury last month in the fatal shooting of Clay County Sheriff Matt Sizemore in 1969.

Sizemore was shot five times with a high-powered rifle while serving warrants. The slaying went unsolved until last year, when Kentucky State Police arrested Brumley after getting a new tip.

Brumley was already in custody at the time in Ohio, where he was serving a sentence for fatally stabbing an 80-year-old man.
