A Nashville woman is giving back to families of Alive Hospice this holiday season by providing a comforting Thanksgiving celebration and meal.
Charlotte Kenyon originally started the Alive Hospice Thanksgiving meal through her non-profit Second Helpings- Serving from the Heart after her husband was a Hospice patient in 2010.
“Most of the volunteers here have been through the Hospice experience, and they've come back to serve the families going through it. That's where our logo comes in, the two halves of the heart. Those who have gone through come back and serve those going through it,” explained Kenyon.
With the help of numerous people and food donations, Kenyon was able to provide around 150 Hospice patients, who typically have a life expectancy of six months or less to live, a Thanksgiving meal Thursday.
“Often times this will be a permanent memory for the families and the last experience of Thanksgiving these patients have with their families,” said Teri Nine, a nurse at Alive Hospice adding, “It's about support and comfort and keeping life as normal as possible.
Thursday's dinner was the sixth major holiday Second Helpings has provided home-cooked meals for families at Alive Hospice.
