A vacant building on the east side of the Cumberland River near downtown Nashville caught fire early Tuesday morning.
Officials told News 2 no one was inside when flames erupted inside the empty warehouse located on Cowan Street.
Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke billowing into the air, prompting them to call more crews to the scene.
The fire reportedly broke out in the basement, which authorities said was filled with trash. They added the fire had been burning for some time before they arrived.
Only one door to the building was unlocked; however, no one was inside and no injuries were reported.
The majority of the damage is due to smoke. The warehouse remains in okay condition otherwise.
The fire marshal is expected to survey the scene in the morning.
