Three people were injured, one critically, in a head-on collision on Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood early Monday morning.
According to police, the driver a Chrysler LHS crossed the center line near Seven Springs Way around 3:30 a.m. and struck a gray Corolla head-on.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 45-year-old man, and his 21-year-old female passenger, who was sleeping in the back seat, were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Corolla, a 36-year-old man, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with injuries described as life-threatening.
Authorities found a bottle of prescription pills inside the Chrysler. The driver reportedly told police he took some on Sunday.
Officials are waiting for the hospital to draw blood and determine his intoxication level.
Traffic was slow in the area while police worked to clear the scene.
