A west Tennessee woman battling a deadly illness won $5 million on a scratch off lottery ticket.
Winner Belinda Garner told WBBJ-TV she was told by doctors five months ago that she only had six months to live due to cirrhosis of the liver. She added the prize money serves as an answer to her prayers.
“I thought maybe one day, you know you always wish,” she told the television station. “I thought I was seeing things.”
Garner said she plans to help her family, including her brother who is suffering from stomach cancer, purchase a new truck and pay off her son's home with the lottery winning.
After taxes Garner received $2.6 million.
