INDIANAPOLIS- The Vanderbilt Commodores trailed by 14 points in the second half Tuesday night but battled back to force overtime against Butler. In the end, the Commodores suffered their first loss of the season 85-77.
At three different points in the second half, Vanderbilt trailed by 14. However, the final seven minutes of regulation play allowed for a 15-2 run from the Commodores.
A three-point play from Eric McClellan gave Vanderbilt the lead with 53.8 seconds left to go. A final missed 3-pointer at the buzzer sent the game into overtime.
However, Vanderbilt's momentum seemed to stall once extra time began. Khyle Marshall scored 9 of Butler's 15 overtime points. Vanderbilt managed only seven points.
The Commodores head to St. Thomas, V.I on Friday for the ezybonds Paradise Jam.
