An elderly woman bound to a wheelchair was killed in a house fire in Trousdale County, near Hartsville Monday morning.

The Hartsville Vidette reported 75-year-old Juanita Jackson was inside the home located on Highway 141 South by herself when the fire sparked around 8:30 a.m.

Authorities reported Jackson's husband had left the home minutes before the fire broke out.

“Her husband hadn't been gone 10 minutes probably. When he came back and saw smoke he tried to get her, but couldn't,” Volunteer Fire Chief Jimmy Anthony told the Hartsille Vidette.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
