Many people were baffled when they heard the tornado sirens sounding in Brentwood and Franklin Sunday night without a warning in effect night.
News 2 spoke with officials who said the city recently received new weather software and it showed a possible tornado on the screen just before 8 p.m.
Dispatchers were alerted to the possible tornadic activity and activated the siren.
Despite false reports, Brentwood officials said there was not a glitch in the system and the city wanted to err on the side of caution, adding citizens' safety is a top priority.
Officials said they will be reviewing their internal policies and procedures to ensure the tornado sirens are only used in the event of an actual tornado.
