A man is dead after authorities say he was stabbed by a 13-year-old boy in Hamblen County, northeast of Knoxville.

Giorgio Kyle, 26, was found stabbed on the porch of his girlfriend's house in Russellville Monday night.

According to sister station WATE-TV in Knoxville, deputies with the Hamblen County Sheriff's Office gave him CPR but he later died UT Medical Center.

The sheriff says the teen is the nephew of Kyle's girlfriend's, Kelsey Jackson, and the boy came to his aunt's rescue during an episode of domestic violence.

“He's 13 years old and he thought the only way he could take up for me was to do what he had to do,” Jackson told the TV station.

Jackson said she and Kyle dated for about three years and admits he did have a problem with violence.

“I know that he loved me.  No doubt about it,” Jackson said about her late boyfriend, but added, “I'd been cheated on, hit, punched, all that.”

After a recent episode of abuse in the home they shared together, Jackson went to her family's home in Russellville where Kyle came to see her.

“As soon as I walked outside, Giorgio began screaming, yelling, and he punched me several times,” Jackson said.

As things escalated she says her 13-year-old nephew, who was inside the house, got worried and came outside with a steak knife.

“He was protecting me. He said 'Aunt Kelsey, he's going to kill you.' So when he stabbed Giorgio, he said he never meant to hurt him,” she said.

The sheriff's office has not taken the boy into custody.  The family says he's incredibly shaken up by the incident.

Kyle did have a criminal history but his family says he was turning his life around.

Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnagin said they'll present evidence in the case to the DA's office.  However, it's unlikely the teen will face charges because he was acting to protect his aunt.
