MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say an 18-year-old high school student has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a teen at a graduation party in Memphis.
The Shelby County district attorney said Friday that Antwion Dowdy has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the May 18 death of 15-year-old Sharquette Smith.
Investigators say Smith was shot when some partygoers began flashing gang signs and taunting one another after the party broke up.
Police said about 60 young people showed up at the party after someone posted it on Facebook.
Dowdy, an 11th-grade student at Douglass High School, also was indicted on three counts of aggravated assault.
Online court records do not show if Dowdy has a lawyer.
