The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested a Gibson County mother for soliciting funds for her family saying her son has cancer when in fact the boy does not have the disease.
Jamie Decker, 35, of Medina, north of Jackson, is charged with one count of theft over $10,000.
The TBI began investigating Decker last month amid allegations that she was fraudulently soliciting money through the media and social media saying that her 11-year-old son Chance Houlihan has cancer.
According to the TBI, Decker first made up the story in 2008.
Investigators determined at least $10,000 in donations were made to the family, but have not determined an exact amount of the total money solicited.
The investigation is ongoing.
