A Gibson County mother was arrested on Tuesday after authorities say she solicited funds for her family by claiming her 11-year-old son had cancer.
Authorities began investigating Jamie Decker after receiving allegations the 35-year-old woman was fraudulently soliciting money for her family from individuals through the media and social media.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation determined Decker collected at least $10,000 in donations.
During their investigation, doctors concluded the child does not have cancer, but is the victim of abuse.
Decker is charged with theft over $10,000 and remains jailed without bond.
The child has since been removed from her care.
