A Fort Campbell soldier died as a result of combat-related injuries sustained in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Staff Sergeant Thomas Allen Baysore Jr., of Milton, Pennsylvania was fatally shot during an attack on Thursday.
Baysore, 32, was killed by an enemy combatant who opened fire on a group of soldiers.
He was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a squad leader.
During his time in the military, Baysore earned multiple awards including a Valorous Unit Award and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among many others.
Baysore is survived by his spouse, Jamie L. Baysore of Clarksville, his son five-year-old Jamie, his mother, Ms. Sandra Hackerberg and father Mr. Thomas Baysore, both of Pennsylvania.
A memorial ceremony will be conducted for Baysore in Afghanistan.
