Bud Selig's 22nd season as Major League Baseball Commissioner will be his last.

Seventy-nine-year-old Selig has been hinting at his retirement for years, but finally issued a formal statement Thursday.

Selig also said he'll announce a transition plan that will reorganize central baseball management.

Selig was named acting commissioner in 1992, said he did not want the job, but ended up taking it formally in 1998 and signed four more contracts after that.
