Tenn. August unemployment unchanged at 8.5%

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee's unemployment rate for August was 8.5%, unchanged from the previous month.

Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips said it's the third consecutive month that the rate has not changed from 8.5%.

The national unemployment rate for August was 7.3%.

State figures show that nonfarm employment increased by 2,200 jobs from July to August.
