The Transportation Security Administration located a loaded pistol inside a traveler's carry-on bag at the Nashville International Airport Sunday night.
The discovery was made just before 8 p.m. Airport police were immediately notified and took possession of the weapon.
Passengers who bring firearms to a checkpoint face a civil penalty from the TSA.
Sunday's discovery was the 38th gun that has been discovered at the Nashville airport this year. Last year, TSA recovered 1,556 firearms at checkpoints nationwide, including 32 locally.
