CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – A project on Monteagle Mountain has gotten a $200,000 grant to help in its completion.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the Mountain Goat Trail project got the grant last month.
The project seeks to convert 35 to 40 miles of the abandoned Mountain Goat Railroad right-of-way into a multi-use recreational corridor between Grundy and Franklin counties.
Officials say the grant will fund about two miles of trail work that could be started inside the city limits of Tracy City and Palmer.
The first-phase piece of the trail in Sewanee is complete almost to the Franklin-Grundy county line.
