A 36-year-old man faces charges after he allegedly severely injured his elderly grandfather inside a Murfreesboro home earlier this week.
Michael Heaverin stated to police the incident involving his 74-year-old grandfather occurred after he returned home from Gentleman Jim's Wednesday night and became upset with the dog.
Authorities said Heaverin struck the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground, before stomping on him several times.
The elderly victim sustained two broken ribs, a broken elbow, and a collapsed lung, among other serious injuries.
He remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he has since undergone surgery.
Heaverin is charged with elder abuse and aggravated assault.
