Tennessee firefighters hosted their fourth annual “9/11 Memorial Stair Climb” Sunday in Nashville.

The climb is in honor of the New York firefighters that lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

Fire departments across Tennessee, as well as six other states, climbed 110 floors, representing the stairs the New York firefighters climbed in the Twin Towers.

On Sunday, participants climbed 28 flights of stairs four times at the Tennessee Tower in downtown Nashville to fulfill the 110-floor climb.

Firefighter Ken Boudreau of Simsbury, Connecticut told News 2 how emotional the tough climb can be.

“The most emotional part, and I've told this story so many times, is getting to the plaza level, having your team announced, and then walking out and reading the name of the person that you climbed for and ringing the bell,” explained Boudreau.

Each firefighter held a picture of one of the New York firefighters killed in the tragedy as they climbed the stairs.
