The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has charged a man who was shot by officers with the Millersville Police Department during a traffic stop last month.

Richard Mayers, 50, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of felony evading arrest, being a convicted felon in unlawful possession of a weapon and drug charges.

Mayers was stopped on August 15 after officers received information that Mayers had active warrants on file, was in possession of a firearm and had drugs to sell.

Mayers resisted arrest and fled from police with the pursuit ending at the Economy Inn Motel.

Officers fired at Mayers, striking him multiple times, after he pointed his weapon at the officers.

Mayers was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he recovered from his injuries.

He was released Thursday and booked into the Sumner County jail.
